Children's Hope Bracelets

I've had people ask how they can help.  Here is the bottom of my original post and I felt it was important to repost this again...

Paying it forward to those in need, Drake’s Hope Bracelets…

Drake thought that was just the neatest and coolest thing so we came up with an idea to pass that feeling along.  We want to ask everyone we know to either donate beaded bracelets they’ve made or  bracelet parts, leather for the bracelets, etc. so we can make these for other children in the hospital and Drake can help make them while sitting on the couch or in the hospital. We will attach a little note, somewhat similar to the one his Grannie wrote letting ill children know to feel comfort that others are thinking of them and love them.

We will take bracelets made from other children or make them ourselves, and deliver them to the children’s hospitals in Utah, Colorado and anywhere else we can send his story and his sweet message.  On every bracelet we ask that there is a feather, a jingle bell and beads. We will attach a red bead (Drake’s favorite color) to everyone we receive before delivering them.  We will also attach his message to each bracelet.

It is our hopes that Drake’s story and purpose spreads and touches the lives of others.

A week post bb...

A week out...

After recovering from what felt like somewhat kicked my butt, we all woke up and so far it seems this morning will be our first calm one. Drake is doing well, his spirits are up and we decided we are going to make more bracelets for the kiddos at the Children's Hospitals. Drake is sitting here with me and I asked if there is anything he wants to tell everyone out there. "Always stay away from bb guns when someone is shooting it. Thank you for your love and prayers." His words exactly.  Hopefully, today things continue to go smoothly......  Okay, so not so smoothly he says he feels sick.  Could we please just get one day of no ADHD and no nausea.  ahhhhh! I just want to scream. These bracelets are becoming like therapy and so is this blog!

We will update his blog with how many bracelets we’ve received or made. It is our goal to make at least 1,000.  This means we know that Drake’s story has at least touched 1,000 people and children.

You'll shoot your eye out...(literally!)

You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out… (literally!)

We are asking that everyone we know spreads his story around and keeps him in their prayers. The part of the movie, “A Christmas Story”, is pretty legit when it states, “You’ll shoot your eye out.” Never in a million years did we think this could be our son. I always laughed at that part of the movie, thinking ya like that’d happen.
He was at least 6-8 feet away, hiding  next to a tent when he decided to pop his head up to look at the red cup target.  

We strongly feel we let other children see how important it is to always be safe with guns, even as small as a bb.

Thank you for your prayers, love and support. In a time of comfort and need, we can say with certainty- our home has felt them. We’ve prayed for ways for Drake to feel comfort and peace during the next few years of recovery.

“Trust in Lord the with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

What path should we take.  Where can we turn for peace? Prayer, that’s for sure.Drake has found peace in a really cool bracelet that his, “Grannie,” sent him. She made it by hand special just for him.  It has beautiful beads, feathers, jingles, etc. She wrote in a note, “I made this, (wrist band) with lots of fun stuff on it, just for you. Every time you see one of the beads, dangles or feather or when you hear the little jingle bells, think how much your Heavenly Father loves you and have faith that your eye will get better”.

A little history about Drakey

Drake is one of the most artistic children I have ever seen… He has a sense of humor and quips that I’ve never heard of in children.  There is something special about him that I’ve not quite been able to put my finger on.  He was a premature baby and had many challenges since birth but nothing seems more challenging than what he’s dealing with now.

Drake is not allowed to ride bikes, scooters, swim or play outside. He was also given news he's to not play football or wrestle with his dad and brothers who love him so much! He cried when he found out he wouldn’t be allowed to play football this year.  His entire summer has changed by an accident that could have easily been prevented if he had safety glasses on.  We realize this is something most people wouldn’t be concerned about as a spectator.
